On October 17th we are going to be supporting a special cause at our home match vs American International College. Kickoff is 7PM under the lights at Grappone Stadium.
I became aware of this organization when Kathy and I attended a New England Revolution match last Saturday. They had volunteers walking around Gillette Stadium selling Soccer Kicks Cancer wrist bands. We each bought one and went on to watch the game. I did not think about reaching out to them until one of the parents from my college team asked about doing a Cancer awareness night at the October 17 home game. I did a little research and sent a message to Binkeez asking how we could work together. Their founder, Sue, got back to me within minutes and could not have been more helpful and excited too work with us.
Binkeez For Comfort is a conscious love initiative made up of threads of roots, faith, hope, strength and love primarily expressed through providing the Binkeez for Comfort, specially made blankets, to children facing a life threatening illness in the United States of America. They are based in Shrewsbury Mass and they are a non profit 501C3 organization. Their website is binkeezforcomfort.org
On October 17th, each of our players and coaching staff will be wearing OneGoal tee shirts during the pregame warm up. Many of the parents will also be wearing the shirts. The shirts are $25 and 100% of that money goes to Binkeez for Comfort. For each shirt that our team wears, Binkeez will be providing a blanket with the Saint Anselm Logo for our team to hand deliver to children fighting cancer in local hospitals. We will be hand delivering the 26 blankets after the season in small groups of players to various local hospitals and spending some time with the kids.
Needless to say, this tugs at my heart strings in many ways. I explained what we were thinking about to my team last night at training and they were all so excited about the idea. I will be sure to post some pictures from the 17th as well as when we start to deliver the blankets.
