Dry Run a Success

Made the trek to Brigham and Women’s in Boston today with Kathy. As usual the people there are so nice and so good at what they do. We went down to the Radiation Oncology on L2 at Brigham’s after battling the Boston AM traffic for a 10AM appointment. The whole purpose of this day was to double check all the software mapping and cast making done by Dr Baldini to make sure everything is perfect for the real deal tomorrow at 4PM. After finding the key tattoo on my leg that matched up with a specific laser they started moving me ever so slightly until all 5 lasers were perfectly aligned on my 5 tattoos. My foot was secured in the cast and boot to insure there was no movement. After 15-20 minutes and a bunch of X-Rays, mission accomplished!

We met with Dr Baldini after and she explained in detail how the Intensity-Modulated Radiation (IMRT) 3D technology will attack the tumor. They are able to hit the tumor from various angles and a very small margin around it. They can target it within millimeters of exactly where it needs to go. They can actually shape the dose to match the shape of the tumor to provide maximum results with minimal damage to good tissue.

We did make a an unexpected stop at my primary care doctor as I was having some minor chest pains. I insisted I was fine but Kathy wanted me to get checked out. Everything was fine except for a higher than usual blood pressure which is due to the stress we are feeling over the cancer and some other none health related issues. It was good to see that the EKG was a perfect match to one I had done a few tears ago.
