Back on April 14th we were told that the Sarcoma was a Stage 1 cancer but it also listed the tumor in the pathology report as “high grade”, meaning it is an aggressive tumor. If it is stage 1 then why is it also considered high grade? When I asked the head of Radiation Oncology, Dr Baldini, about this her reply was interesting. She said that Sarcoma’s are not really refereed to in stages. All Sarcoma’s are very aggressive and are either localized, Stage 3 or metastasized, Stage 4. Mine is localized which is a far better option then being metastasized which means it has spread to other parts of my body.
That being said we found out today that the tumor has grown quite a bit since the original MRI back on April 1st. It is close to 4″ long and about 2″ inches across and a month ago it was 2.75″ x 1.5″. It is aggressive and growing but thankfully localized. It also explains the increased discomfort that I mentioned in my earlier post.
I am so glad we are moving towards treatment starting next Tuesday so they can stem the growth and we can start to win the battle.
